The PADI Assistant
Instructor course at Davy Jones Locker
As a PADI Assistant Instructor, you'll start to
learn the PADI System of diver education. You can act as an instructional scuba assistant and assume
limited teaching responsibilities. It’s a great way to gain experience in order to become a scuba
instructor
The PADI Assistant Instructor course is the first part of the PADI Instructor
Development Course (IDC) and when followed by the Open Water Scuba Instructor course (OWSI) and
successfully passing the Instructor Examination (IE), results in certification as a PADI Open Water Scuba
Instructor.

PADI Open
Water Scuba Instructor Course [OWSI] at Davy Jones Locker
The Open Water Scuba
Instructor (OWSI) program is one of two distinct components of PADI’s Instructor Development Course (IDC).
The first portion is the Assistant Instructor course followed by the Open Water Scuba Instructor
program.
The OWSI program is six days. It introduces you to the entire PADI System of diver education
and concentrates on further developing your abilities as a professional dive educator.
You’ll
also have the opportunity to continue your professional education by participating in specialty instructor
courses, which train you to teach specialties after instructor certification.
At DJL Diving, we've put together a number of different PADI Instructor Packages, so you can decide if you'd like to train as an PADI Assistant Instructor PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor, PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer [MSDT] or a PADI Staff Instructor.

The PADI MSDT Internship option is a minimum 4 week program that you will usually
start after your IE when you certify as a PADI OWSI. PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer is the next level of
instructor up from OWSI and there are two components to the course - learning to teach and upgrading your
Specialty Instructor rating.
After working as a PADI Instructor for a while you'll have picked
up valuable wisdom and experience which you can share with up-and-coming PADI leaders, so why not take the
next step in your diving education and move up to the next level and become a PADI IDC Staff Instructor.
As an Instructor Development Course (IDC) Staff Instructor, you'll help to train future PADI Instructors
while gaining in-depth instructor-trainer knowledge.
When you go
night diving you'll see a whole new world. Even your local dive site takes on a new personality at night,
as many underwater creatures and plant life (different from those you see during the day) are active at
night.
You'll learn night dive planning, organization, procedures, techniques and potential
problems. You'll also learn how to control your buoyancy, navigate and communicate at night. Since many of
the plants and animals you'll see are different, you'll also get an introduction to nocturnal aquatic
life.

The Davy Jones Locker Specialities allow divers to fully enhance their diving skills and
knowledge within specific areas of the sport. If you've always enjoyed photography then we can teach you
the finer points of using an underwater strobe and how to overcome the difficulties associated; if you
fancy going deep then we'll teach you how to safely dive deeper.
For those that like it a bit more
adventurous. The Deep Diver course consists of 4 dives between 18m and 40m with your instructor. You will
be shown specific protocols and safety procedures that make this course a real learning experience,
boosting your confidence in the water. If you wish the Enriched Air speciality can be combined with this
course to give you a fully rounded knowledge of deeper diving and mixed gases. The PADI Deep Diver
certification counts toward your Master Scuba Diver rating.
By diving with
enriched air rather than standard air (21% oxygen) you can extend your no decompression limits. This means
more time underwater. For example, if you dive to 30 metres/100 feet on air, your no decompression limit is
20 minutes. But, diving on EANx36 (36% oxygen) gets you 35 minutes of no decompression time - what almost
doubles your no decompression limit!
Since there's so much to see underwater you'll want to make the most of your
stay. The PADI Multilevel Diver Specialty course tells you how by introducing you to the many varieties of
multilevel diving.
You'll learn what multilevel diving is and why you want to plan for
multilevel dives. You'll also get to see the various types of multilevel dive calculators (including the
Recreational Dive Planner, Wheel version and dive computers), as well as learn about multilevel dive
planning, organisation, procedures, techniques, and potential problems.

Whether it's a regulator problem, a wet suit tear or a broken mask strap, the Equipment Specialist course can help.
This Specialty course prepares you for the basic equipment maintenance, care and adjustments you'll encounter every day. In addition, you'll get the valuable background on equipment repair and purchase, making you better able to protect your investment.
If you're interested
in aquatic life then the PADI Underwater Naturalist Specialty course is for you. This course is an
introduction to the underwater aquatic environment and will help develop safe and responsible aquatic life
interaction techniques.
If you want to
fine-tune your buoyancy and soar over reefs, extend bottom time by reducing air consumption and prolong the
life of your dive equipment, the Peak Performance Buoyancy[PPB] Specialty course is for you.
Digital has taken the underwater photography world by storm. Get in on the
action with the PADI Digital Underwater Photographer Specialty course. You can quickly and easily capture
the underwater world with your camera and on your computer.
Whether you’ve
never made a boat dive or you’ve logged dozens, the PADI Boat Diver Specialty course can benefit almost
every diver because different boats in different parts of the world do things differently. The PADI Boat
Diver Specialty course familiarises you with the various ways you stow gear, enter and exit the water, use
surface lines and more, depending upon the type boat and the location. The PADI Boat Diver certification
counts toward your Master Scuba Diver rating and is run over 2 open water dives with your instructor.
When you're underwater, knowing where you are and where you're going comes in handy,
especially if you're looking for that beautiful reef that you've heard all about. The PADI Underwater
Navigator Specialty course will help you become a pro at finding your way underwater.Have you ever dropped something in
the water? Are you looking for lost treasure? The PADI Search and Recovery Divery
Specialty course will
teach you effective ways to find objects underwater and bring them to the surface.
You'll learn
search and recovery dive planning, organisation, procedures, techniques and potential problems. You'll
also cover limited visibility, search patterns and safe object recovery using lift devices.
DPV’s offer a thrilling way to see a lot of underwater territory in a brief amount of time. They scoot
you through the water without kicking. Want to visit that offshore reef from the beach? A DPV may be the
way to go.
